The Wild North

Grizzlies, Lynx, Mountains & the Last Frontier
May 15 – 23, 2025
Max group size: 3 guests | Starts in Edmonton, ends in Prince Rupert

The Itinerary

Join us on a once-in-a-lifetime road-based wildlife expedition through the remote northern wilderness of Alberta and British Columbia. From grizzly bears and mountain goats to moose, lynx, and jaw-dropping landscapes, this small-group adventure will immerse you in some of the wildest and most beautiful areas Canada has to offer.

Day 1 – May 15: Arrival & Elk Island National Park Arrive in Edmonton in the early afternoon, where your guide will greet you at the airport. We’ll head straight to Elk Island National Park, a fantastic spot to start our journey with potential sightings of plains bison, elk, and waterfowl. After some time exploring the park’s peaceful trails and wildlife viewing areas, we’ll head back to Edmonton for a comfortable overnight stay.  Night in Edmonton

Day 2 – May 16: Into Bear Country We’ll leave Edmonton behind and travel west toward the foothills of the Rockies. Our route includes a drive along a “secret wildlife road” near Hinton that’s known for its springtime sightings of grizzly bears, black bears, elk, and bighorn sheep. Wildlife is often spotted right from the roadside as we slowly make our way through these wild and scenic corridors.  Night in Hinton

Day 3 – May 17: Jasper, Maligne Lake & Mount Robson Today is all about iconic mountain scenery and more wildlife opportunities. We’ll start early with a visit to Jasper National Park, then drive the famous Maligne Lake Road, a hotspot for bears, moose, and wolves. Continuing west, we’ll stop at the awe-inspiring Mount Robson, the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies, before pushing into northern British Columbia. This will be a long day of travel, but also one of the most visually rewarding.  Night in Vanderhoof

Day 4 – May 18: Exploring to Terrace We continue west across British Columbia, heading toward the wild Skeena River valley and the town of Terrace. This route is rich with wildlife and offers frequent bear sightings, along with potential moose and eagles. We’ll stop often to take in the views and explore promising roadside habitat along the way.  Night in Terrace

Day 5 – May 19: Into the Wilderness – Stewart, BC The road to Stewart is one of Canada’s best-kept secrets for wildlife viewing. Towering mountains, waterfalls, and glacial valleys set the scene as we search for grizzlies, black bears, moose, caribou, and possibly even lynx. This remote border town is nestled at the end of a deep fjord and surrounded by wilderness.  Night in Stewart

Day 6 – May 20: Into the Wild – Dease Lake via Telegraph Creek Get ready for one of Canada’s most legendary backroads: Telegraph Creek Road. Remote, rugged, and almost untouched, this drive takes us through the heart of grizzly country with chances to see black bears, moose, caribou, mountain goats, and lynx. This is the real deal — few travelers ever make it here. We’ll overnight in Dease Lake, gateway to the northern wilderness and the famed Alaska Highway.  Night in Dease Lake

Day 7 – May 21: Telegraph Creek Road – A Second Look With a full day to explore, we’ll return to Telegraph Creek Road for deeper immersion into this incredibly wild landscape. We’ll travel slowly to maximize our chances of spotting rare and charismatic species and allow time for photography. This region feels like another world — a place where wildlife rules and humans are mere guests.  Night in Dease Lake

Day 8 – May 22: Return to Terrace We make our way back south, retracing part of our route through the stunning mountain and forest landscapes. Keep your cameras ready — wildlife sightings are common throughout the day, and the vistas never get old.  Night in Terrace

Day 9 – May 23: Departure from Prince Rupert After breakfast, we’ll make the final leg of our journey to Prince Rupert, where you’ll catch your flight home from the regional airport. Our wildlife road trip comes to a close, but the memories of bears, mountains, and true northern wilderness will stay with you forever.
