Great Gray Owl Coming in for a Landing

Alberta Owl Odyssey - February 22-28, 2026

A Winter Journey Through Owl Country from the Boreal Forest to the Rockies Foothills - February 22 - February 28, 2026 - 7 Days - 6 Nights

If you have ever wanted to stand quietly while a Great Gray Owl glides out of the tree line or watch a Northern Hawk Owl perched like a sentinel in the winter sun, this is the perfect time to join Nature Across Canada.

January in Alberta is the heart of the owl season. It is when Great Gray Owls drift down from the deep boreal forest, when Snowy Owls shine across the open prairie and when Short eared Owls sweep low over frozen grasslands. Beginning in Edmonton, this trip follows the winter birds as we travel south through some of the most productive owl regions in the province.

We will explore the boreal forest and the agricultural lands around Fort Saskatchewan before continuing south to the foothills and wide open fields near Calgary. With a group of only three to six guests, each day is relaxed, flexible and completely focused on finding birds and enjoying the incredible winter scenery.

One of our stops will be Elk Island National Park which is one of the most beautiful winter landscapes in Canada. Wood Bison, Plains Bison and Elk move through the frosted forest, and Northern Goshawks often hunt the same groves. Alberta in winter has a special kind of magic with hoarfrost on the trees, quiet back roads, soft morning light and huge prairie skies that seem to stretch forever.

With simple travel days, a warm van, comfortable hotels and short walks, this trip is ideal for anyone who loves birds, photography and the peaceful beauty of winter. When the northern forests send their owls south, Alberta becomes a world class destination, and you will have the chance to experience and photograph these incredible birds in the best possible way.

This is an extremely exclusive tour with a maximum of 3 Guests.
